A local energy giant's carbon capture project is one of only two recipients of up to $1.2 billion in demonstration grants from the Department of Energy. 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Houston-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY), was named as one of the initial selections of the Direct Air Capture Hubs program. The specific project receiving the grant is the South Texas DAC Hub, which 1PointFive will develop with British Columbia-based Carbon Engineering Ltd. and Australia-based Worley. The South Texas hub consists of 30 DAC projects over 160,000 acres at King Ranch in Kleberg County, south of Corpus Christi.
