Houston's "hell summer" might be ending with a bang on Friday, with forecasters predicting possible severe storms and heat index values around 110 degrees for parts of the region by this afternoon. Experts say Friday could be the season's final bout of dangerous heat, capping off a summer that has shattered several of Houston's all-time heat records and pushed Texas' energy grid to new limits. The National Weather Service's Houston and Galveston Office issued an excessive heat warning Friday morning, covering the Houston metro area and nearly all of Harris County as well as a large swath of southeast and south-central Texas north of I-10.
